the little girl grows
A box of 64 Crayolas
grasped in the hand of a little girl
a dreamer with brown curls all over her head
the gap between her two front teeth
small but noticeable
just like her.
Her glasses slip down the bridge of her nose
no longer a little girl to the outside world
inside the little girl cowers
same brown curls covering the head of a dreamer
same blue eyes that glisten with hope
as the little girl grows
smiling at a world that can do no wrong.
Her dreams are in all colors of the rainbow
she sees the world with her curious mind in all shades of blues, greens, and purples
as the glasses still slip down her nose
and the gap between those two front teeth grows.
Tears flow like a waterfall
down those cherub-like cheeks
with her head perched on Daddy’s shoulders
asking him “Daddy, why don’t they like me?”
Same brown curls covering the head of a dreamer
same blue eyes, now filled with tears
No one understands what she is going through
no one to know how she feels.
Heart made out of gold
smiles from cheek to cheek
little girl is growing up
“Mommy and Daddy, let me be.”
The loving little child
with the brown long curls
is no longer
their sweet little girl
and in her place
they can now see
a grown up version
of who she used to be.
She still has blue eyes
and they glisten with hope
and inside her head
she has the same dreams and goals.
She still is loving
with a heart of gold,
she still is Daddy’s girl
even though she’s getting old.
Mommy is still her best friend
and kisses away her pains
Sisters still to play with
and teach them many new things.
Loving and intelligent
reaching for the stars
she may seem like an ordinary little girl
but her dreams will take her far.
